Check out my location and outfit ideas regarding senior photos for guys! Keith’s high school senior session is a fabulous example! We started at a location that had meaning to him. Keith and his friends like to ride along the riverfront trail and end up at the graffiti wall, in downtown St. Louis. So of course, we started at the beginning of the trail and worked our way down to the famous flood wall, that is covered in graffiti! At the beginning of the trail is some amazing sculpture art. This location was developed by Bob Cassilly with the City Museum, so it is cool for sure! We stopped by the century-old Laclede Power Building and then we headed down to the graffiti wall, just south of the Arch.

Keith started his session in a casual outfit, then switched up to one of his favorite sweaters and then changed into a black long sleeve button-up shirt and tie. Great outfit changes, which gave good variety to his overall portfolio! So for my high school senior guys, I suggest: start with something casual, then something more dressed up and then end it with a shirt and tie! For even more suggestions check out my pinterest board for high school senior boys: HS Senior Pinterest Board for Guys.

For locations, I recommend choosing a spot that has meaning to you or your family. Whether is a local park, your own backyard or just a spot that you think is cool! For outfits, I recommend choosing your outfits at least a week in advance. That way everything is clean and pressed and ready to go! Think about activities that you like to do, we will incorporate that into your session!

Talk about some amazing graffiti! A St. Louis Cardinal bird, “eyez” by Pete Wollaeger, a Dr Seuss scene, 3D graffiti with “the lights on”, a farm scene and more! Shoot out to the graffiti artists!! If any of this is your paint, please contact me! I’d love to link up and post your name here!

Amy and Mike’s wedding reception was held at the Moto Museum in St. Louis, MO. The museum displays 100 rare and vintage motorcycles from around the world! It truly is a unique venue, located in the Grand Center near the Fabulous Fox Theater, the St Louis Symphony and Saint Louis University. The museum is connected to the Triumph Grill and a boutique hotel, Hotel Ignacio. More photos of this romantic hotel can be seen in Amy and Mike’s previous blog post, here. You can check out the getting ready photos and their wedding ceremony as well! Previous post.

There were so many fun details at this wedding reception! Instead of a guest book the couple had a recipe box. Guests were encouraged to write down their tips for a happy marriage, or their recipe for a happy marriage! Such a creative way to record who was at your special event! Their seating chart included a map and photos of historical places in St. Louis! They had a dessert table with pies, chocolate cake, cheesecake and chocolate covered strawberries! The bride and groom cut into a delicious pie instead of your traditional wedding cake! Which it did get a little messy, see adorable photo of bride below! Complete Music kept the dance floor packed and guests enjoyed using a polaroid camera to capture candids! I had a great time second shooting for Cryrolfe Photography.

What is an Offbeat Bride? The definition of “off beat” means: not conforming to the ordinary type or pattern; unconventional. Unusual, eccentric. Differing from the usual or expected.

I absolutely love when brides embrace this type of style and make their day uniquely their own!

I recently attended a photography conference in Santa Barbara and one of the shooting opportunities was called The Offbeat Bride Shoot! The photos below are some of my favorites. Our models are fellow photographers that were also attending the conference! I had an absolute blast photographing them! Not to mention we were shooting on the beach and at sunset! So beautiful!

Our first couple is Lauren and Seth Pinson. Lauren is a wedding photographer based out of Northern Texas. You can learn more about her at: laurenpinson.com. Lauren and Seth found their outfits at Mod Cloth! Her off white dress has little black hearts on it! It almost looks like polka dots but if you look closer you will see they are little hearts!  I absolutely love lace! Her lace jacket was another fun vintage touch! And how about those kitten heels!? Too cute! Did you notice her peek-a-boo blue hair? What a fun way to add a pop of color! And I love her hubby’s flat cap, bow tie and suspenders!

Our next couple is Mycah and Bobby Burns of Redmond Digital Media. Bobby is wearing a flat cap and polka dot shirt under his jacket. Mycah is wearing an off white vintage dress with lace long-sleeves and flowy full skirt. Her lace headband and brown lace up boots are very boho-chic! Mycah and Bobby danced for us and then shared a few quiet moments together as I looked on from a distance! They had a romantic and playful vibe about them. I recently learned they just celebrated 10 years together! Congratulations you two!

Our third model couple is composed of Jamie with Jamie Ivins Photography based out of Milford, Massachusetts and Julie with Julie Wilmes Photography based out of Fort Worth, Texas. One of the most awesome things about these photographs for me, is that I learned so much from the two of them! Soon after this photo session they each gave five minute speeches to a large group of fellow photographers. I was so encouraged after they spoke. The overall message I took from both of them was, to just be yourself! Be yourself, people will appreciate you for who you are. Of course they said a lot more than that and I wish I had it recorded! Jamie and Julie you guys are amazingly awesome!:)

Our photography conference was held at The Fess Parker Hotel. We had a gala dinner that night. What a fabulous place for a wedding reception! I love they string lights they have strung up around the Plaza.

Our photo shoot organizer for the Offbeat Bride shoot was Carrie of Carrie Swails Photography! Thank you Carrie!

California, I’ll be back for more soon!:)

Jamie Ivins - These are awesome!! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

Castlewood Park in St Louis County was a great location choice for Allie & Stephen’s engagement session! We moved to multiple locations within the park and Allie & Stephen were open to trying new things. For example, I had them walk apart from each other and then with their eyes closed try to find one another without talking! When they found each other they celebrated with big hugs and big natural smiles! We traveled to the ruins within the park and heard movement within the park. Pretty sure the squirrels were keeping an eye on us!

Allie and Stephen have participated in trail rides within the park, so they had lots of good memories there! We found a stream, where they had rock throwing contests! And last but not least we were able to incorporate photos in their Cardinal jerseys!

When describing their e-session Stephen said “I loved the session. Neither of us are really comfortable in front of a camera, so the guidance was awesome. The outcome of the pictures were awesome because they seemed natural. Everyone we showed them to agreed the natural ones of us were their favorite.” Allie said “We loved it! It was in one of our favorite places and really captured our laid back relationship.” When asked what did she most enjoy about the engagement session she said: “Being natural. We both don’t do well with forced, fake poses. We end up looking uncomfortable in the picture.” I’m so glad I could give Allie & Stephen what they were looking for in their engagement photos. We had a lot of fun that day too!

I loved hearing about how Allie & Stephen meet. They were neighbors in college and quickly became friends. Their first date wasn’t until after knowing each other for a month or two! They were the only ones left on campus while everyone else was away on Christmas break. They drove 30 minutes to get to the restaurant and Stephen’s windshield started to crack! It was freezing outside and Stephen was afraid the entire windshield was going to shatter while they were driving! Stephen said “The date itself, like every time we go out, was personal, natural and fun. It truly felt like we had already been dating for years.”

Thanks for hanging out with me at Castlewood Park and I can’t wait for your upcoming wedding in April!
