I had a great time last week in Las Vegas, NV at the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International – WPPI conference! I meet photographers from all over the world! I enjoyed improving not only my business but, myself personally! I was surrounded by talented artists, successful business people and just all around good people! My first class was with Jesh De Rox. When I first walked into the class Jesh was playing the guitar and I knew I was in the right class for me! Jesh was added to the list of instructors only two weeks prior to the conference starting date! I had no idea he was going to be there and pleasantly surprised. I have already incorporated some of Jesh’s techniques into my photo sessions. It was a pleasure to meet him in person. I plan to explain why and how I use his techniques in a future blog post! If you’ve been on a photo shoot with me and we did the cinnamon roll prompt, I learned that from Jesh!
I also enjoyed learning from Roberto Valenzuela, who taught us that we don’t have to be a prisoner of the lighting that’s present. We can make the perfect light! I also found inspiration from Raelyn Elizabeth who spoke during Roberto’s class about her idea to form a group of photographers in her area to go on shoots together once a month. The point of the shoots? To keep getting better and better! I plan to start a similar group in my area! Thanks Raelyn for the suggestion!
I was also privileged to be in Lindsay Adler’s class called “Fashion Techniques to Wow your Portrait and Wedding Clients.” She spoke about the fact that anyone can make a pretty picture. What makes yours different? One example photo that really stood out to me was from a photo shoot that she did of a bride and groom that were already married. She did an “after session” with them. This allowed them to do things they wouldn’t normally have time for on the day of the wedding. The bride and groom were able to put their outfits back on and the bride got to have her hair and make up done. Her hair was styled in a more relaxed and flowy way. If you’ve been following my blog or facebook page you know that I enjoy this sort of thing too! Check out Lacey and Stan’s session where we did something similar!
One of the fun things I got to take part in while at WPPI was a Game of Thrones stylized photo shoot with Trevor Dayley. One thing about Trevor is that he’s an open book. He was ready and willing to answer any of our questions. He had some great tips for us Canon 5D Mark III users! The theme of our photo shoot was Game of Thrones. I must admit I do not watch the show. Maybe someone can tell me all about it? I do know that the bridal head pieces were amazing! They were from Justine M Couture. We had professional styling from Stacy Childers with House of Style. Our models were Kelsey J Anderson and Sloan Hatfield. Their beautiful gowns were from Dahlia Bridal. I had a great time reconnecting with some of my photographer friends during this shoot! Hi Kelly and Cathy! We all took turns photographing the models. I think we could have photographed them all night! Check them out below!
Thanks again Trevor for organizing such a fun photo shoot! A few of the other classes I took were with Susan Stripling, Cliff Mautner, Justine Ungaro, and Katelyn James Alsop. A special thanks to all of them as well! I am forever grateful!
I’m excited to put into practice all of the wonderful things I learned at WPPI. If you’d like to benefit from this education I received, please do not hesitate in contacting me for a photo shoot! Call or text me: 707-892-3565. Or fill out my contact form. Looking forward to hearing from you!
